They'll never bring it back....the yuppies just never got it. I kept dreaming of them bringing the FXR back and they never did.
I took an 08 streetbob and made my own new version of the FXDX...as close as I could get anyway. I even have a set of T sport bags for it that I scored for 100 bucks.
We can all keep dreaming that they'll bring bikes back with a purpose...who knows...maybe one day.
I'd just about guarantee we'll never see another FXDX; it wasn't a "commercial" success for HD, so why try twice? The aftermarket has some help; all it takes is smart shopping and/or cubic dollars.....even in it's day there was only "bolt-on" differences between the FXDX and the FXD.....suspension and an extra front disc.....
Your best bet is to build your own.The FXDX was nothing more than a basic FXD with a nice fully adjustable long travel suspension. So what you do is buy a bottom of the line FXD as cheap as you can and throw fistfulls of dollars at the suspension.Me personally, if I wanted to go fast on a Harley I'd get a Sportster and cafe the Hell out of it.Or get a late model Buell for less money than either one.
I wanted to tour solo and 2-up
I wanted to be able to do it at what I considered a rapid rate if I felt like it
I wanted to be able to negotiate very twisty roads
I wanted to do it on a Harley
It had to cost less than $100,000.00.....
So that's why I started with an FXDXT and had it taken completly apart and rebuilt with a bunch of HD and aftermarket stuff...I've ridden Aprillia, BMW, Honda etc etc etc...Nothing works for me like my T. If I had to start from scratch today with something from the current (ie brand new HD) lineup, it would still be a Dyna and would still end up costing a lot to do what I want...probably the Fat Bob...but pretty hard to make anything but a pretty cruiser out of a Harley without a lot of aftermarket investment and Harley makes a ton of money selling paint and chrome.
Would be nice, it is a beautiful bike indeed!! But knowing Harley, the dealer is probably right. The Street Bob is one bad bike though!! Bigger front end and motor, and having a 6 speed is nice too!!
Dyna, I love your bike. What kind of fairing is on it? Is it a quick attach?
