Hey,
Just wondering if this is normal, my bike sounded fine all this time and today I took it out for a spin and it sounded like it was lugging, The dealer told me I had to be careful breaking it in, and to shift thru the gears like this:
Don't worry about being in a certain gear at a certain speed, just ride the bike. There's only 2 things you shouldn't do, 1-don't lug the motor & 2-don't rev the **** out of the motor. If it feels like your lugging the motor, drop down a gear or pick up the speed.

Is lugging when you are in too high of a gear than? I know that may be a stupid question. So if you break in the bike the way H.D. tells you basically ruin your bike??
Lugging the motor would basically be like starting from a dead stop in 2nd or even 3rd gear or not giving her enough throttle in 1st when you take off. Go in a smooth transition from a dead stop to speed. The same thing goes as to shifting through the gears prematurely once you're at speed. Listen to your scoot she'll let you know!
If it's knocking at idle...I'd say you have a problem . But if it is something you only hear when you are needing to down shift.... then you need to learn to shift sooner .

There are a lot of opinions on how to break a motor in. A lot of guys go by the manual like it's the bible, but I understand it's new and you don't want to FK it up. Like I said before listen to the motor, it will tell you everything you need to know. Yes lugging is when your in too high of a gear and not moving fast enough. Like being in 3rd and doing 15 mph. I think everyone will agree with me on this, add about 10 mph to the shift points that the manual says and you'll be fine.
