Angry officially fed up

been on the phone for two days talking to about 10 different people from samson.

all i want to know is the ID of my pipe where the baffle would mount up.

all guys 1-5 had to offer me was the OD of my heat shield (thanks asshats, i can read the f**kin website)

guy 6 guessed.

guy 7 was on the phone with me for 5 minutes before realizing he was researching the wrong part number.

finally i got a tech who knew what he was talking about. "ok legend series street sweepers, ok great, yea 2.5 OD on the heat shields, ok yeah the ID of the pipe is what you need, yeah, i can't tell you the ID of the baffle housing, it's proprietary information."

WHAT?!

you'd think samson was selling special platinum coated baffles that retailed for a million dollars.

now if the bike was outside in my shed i'd have taken off the heat shield by now and measured myself but it's in my indy's shop. and wouldn't you believe it...all 3 techs are out sick today.

hopefully one of them is back tomorrow and can get the heat shield off and get me an accurate measurement.

i guess the real reason i'm pissed is because once the front end comes back from PC the bike is coming down off the lift and going on the dyno. i'd really like to have the baffles in for that, just to avoid having to take the bike down just to put it back up on the lift, and so all my mods are running on the same page and BCT is closed down from jan 3-11.

not really mad at anyone in particular, no real blame to be placed here or there but it's frustrating when you spend $600+ on an exhaust system and can't have access to specs on your pipes for "proprietary reasons"

sorry guys, rant over, thanks for listening.

I'll take a measurement of my pipe if you tell me where the baffle is supposed to mount, I don't have samson but I'll bet with the heat shield being the same the rest will equal out.....

Go to Thunder monster baffle's web site . E-mail them your question , telling them you are interested in their product . And you are curious as to which size baffle you need .

Have you asked BCT... they probably know off hand the ID of your pipe. They knew mine for my V&H pipes I used to have.

i spoke to jim over at BCT. he was great and really knew his stuff, but only knew the ID on my pipe to a certain extent, saying that samson makes their pipes in 3 styles, all 3 with different IDs and needed a more exact number to order the correct baffles.

if i can't get someone over at the shop to pull the heat shield tomorrow to give me a measurement, i'm thinking of scrapping the baffle idea.

am i wrong for wanting to get the baffles in pre dyno tune? is installing the baffles after i get the bike tuned going to effect anything?

Here is my thoughts on this for you. My Cobra Dragsters have a 2 1/2 full coverage heat shield and are stepped headers as well. My head pipes start out at 1 3/4 and then step up to 2 1/4, I imagine the Samsons would be similar considering the heat shields are the same size. The baffles in my pipes are 2 OD give or take (using cheap worn out plastic calipers to measdure them. I'm betting yours are the same, all the pipe manufactures claim this and that but when you get right down to it it's just pipe with cheese graters for baffles and most use readily available sizes.

I think it's smart to wait, they will change the amount of back pressure which will most likely effect the tune.

I bet it's just his way of saying "I don't know and I'm too lazy to look"! I used to work with lazy bastards like that.
