I actually pushed my mini-apes further foward and I haven't had a problem. Of course I didn't have a problem before that either. Street Bob fits me like a glove.
The fact that it's only your throttle hand going numb leads me to believe you have a death grip on the throttle. It's easy to unconsiously grip the throttle too hard. Plus, if you habitually cover the front brake with your index finger, it puts additional stress on the rest of your hand. Practice riding with a looser grip on the throttle. Every now and then stretch your fingers out. If you make an effort, you can break the habit of the death grip on the throttle.

I agree that this can be a problem for some...however, it may not necessarily be the case for everyone experiencing numbness in the right hand. I pay very close attention to how hard I grip the throttle..and even after years of riding and learning how to not have a "death grip", I still experience the numbness. First problem is that I have relatively short, stubby fingers. Mini-apes, while looking cool, don't help. And you're definitely right about covering the brake lever...which I make sure not to do. Bottom line is, everyone is different and has different ways to allieviate the problem. I wish there was one cure all..unfortunately, you need to try multiple things before you find out what works for you. Many agree that different types of cruise controls/throttle bosses, is the answer. Others will reccommend different ways to grip the throttle. It's pretty much universal that releasing your grip and stretching will help. Unfortunately, once the numbness starts, you really have to increase the number of times you have to release and stretch your fingers.
All these reccomendations are helpful. Try one, or all, and hopefully you'll find what works for you.
Well here's a different solution for you that you probably haven't heard yet.I found that after a couple weeks the apes were not comfortable for me at anything over 65 so I switched em out with Flanders wide flat track bars.Totally changed the style and attitude of the bike and my hand doesn't get numb anymore.Probably more expensive than some of the other solutions but it works for me.
Aside from the other answers, if you have a lot of vibration with your hand up on apes, and you have the start of carpal tunnel, , it will keep the blood from flowing into your hand.
