Just for the sake of asking. What problems would I be looking at if I just cut the wire right below the switch housing on the handlebars?

If you are going to cut them, you might be better off cutting at the signals and rolling the wire up, burry it under the tank (insulate the ends) It's easier to hook the lights back up than to fish the wires back up through the bars and reconnect at the switch housing if you'd ever want to go back to signals.

If your gonna cut 'em--(and the regulations are checked and I do need them..but guys have been getting away with riding without a motorcycle license for years without consequences)...10 min. job, (as opposed to 4 hr. job) seal the cut ends..hide them away...but will the rears still work properly?..

Good question.

It seems it would be much easier to reconnect the wires (if I wanted to) if they were cut close to the switch housing, than having to snake them back through the handle bars and wire loom to re-connect them under the tank if they were removed the correct way. Just my opinion.

Most of the guys I ride with here in Alabama do not even have license plates or turn signals on their bikes. So I don't think it would be an issue.

it really does depend on where you live. Last project bike i had to rig up some lights on the mirrors to pass inspection.

normally when you take load off of a signal circuit it will make the flash sequence different. either faster or slower.

I am not trying to lecture here, but it is only about an hour job to pull and reinstall the tank. the only thing you can screw up is not unhooking the fuel line first. It is easy and you learn how to pull your tank and disassemble the connectors. a hundred guys on here you can call on the phone if you have an issue. Do it right, how many things in your life has worked out right when you half-assed it.
It is not really a question of, if the police care about the signals, if your state law says they have to be there, you have an accident from the front, it could be your fault for not having the signals, or they may keep a cage from hitting you. I have hit a cage before, it is not fun(or cheap).

the police are the ones who enforce the state laws, so i'd have to say that it is whether or not the police care about them being there.

i rode for 2 years without front sigs on my fatboy. never got stopped or pulled over and lucky for my my friend does my "inspections" so i never failed.

i say cut the wires and hide them. could be easier to sell in the future if your buyer has the easy option to re-attach sigs.
