World of difference! Glad I made the initial mistake since I got to compare with and without.

Under 50 degrees or on long rides the windshield is a big plus.
I'm thinking a heated jacket or vest. Not just gloves. I got a windshield with my bike when I bought it(pre-owned). I used it a bit during colder weather, still it did not really do all that much, maybe just changes the windshield temp. factor a few degrees is all I personally noticed. FWIW I had a H-D quick detach regular windshield(not the low or touring one). One good thing about a windshield, I could converse with my wife while riding below 55mph easily.

Does it move around or is it stable? Interesting concept.

Default After this week, I need a windshield!

I have the H-D Quick-Release Detachable Compact Windshield. I like it. I can see over this windshield, not through it, and it keeps the wind off of my upper body. I use it for long trips any time of the year and in winter. I wear a full-face helmet. At high speeds (70 and up) I get some head buffeting, but probably less that what I would get if I was riding without the windshield.

This is the one I have (HD57300-06) on My 09 FXDL. It's much cleaner than the full shield without the bars going horizontal and vertical. It does the job, comes off in seconds and looks fairly good. BTW it was cheaper at my local dealer.

I have put a few hundred miles on it since I put it on (two sets of bars too) I have had NO issues with stability. Some of the mounting hardware is plastic so it may not last as long as something like the Windvest ones but it is basically a similar product but not $300!

I have the quick detach low profile on my 2010 Wide Glide. I actually haven't taken it off yet, seems like I got the bike and the next thing I knew it was winter. I plan on taking it off when the weather warms up because I really prefer the looks without it. I think the angle of the shield takes away from the look of the 34 degree rake, does that make sense? I rode for years without a shield and never thought about a shield. On my last bike I had some riding buddies that convinced me I needed a shield. I ended up getting one and then used it for the next 10 years. My plan with this bike is to just use the shield for long distance rides.

I ride with a QD Touring w/s all the times now. I dont care if I look cool or not. I wear a 1/2 helmet with prescription eyewear and dont enjoy getting smacked in the face with June bugs, fish flies or bee's at high velocity. Have had a couple "cracks" from stones thrown up from cagers, trucks or trailers ahead of me. I had head buffeting with my old Compact QD w/s...... so I went with the larger shield and it stopped.
So....it might make me a sissy, or uncool or whatever.....but I'm the one riding the bike and comfort is what ultimately matters to me. To each his / her own.

Just how cold does it get in Palm Harbor, Florida..? The 10 day forecast has it going from 40's to 50's to 60's.

I've had two shields now and though I really prefer the look without, I just seldom ever ride without it. Either it's too cold or the bugs are too big.

Memphis Shades makes some nice shields with good quality aluminum hardware making removal and installation very quick and easy. My first shield was by National Cycles and though I really liked the shield itself, the hardware was black plastic and I spent every moment behind the handlebars looking at and hating that hardware.

yeah right now is about as cold as it gets. So this is why if at say 45 deg. I felt the windshield did not do much other than cut some wind, how is it going to really make someone all that much warmer at a colder temp. Hence I believe that heated gear(I have never owned) would probably actually warm you up as opposed to just cutting down the wind. Mind you I don't wear a helmet, face protection, or gloves.
