Default 2008 superglide first tire change.[ while its cold ]

Last week i saw that this part of florida [Destin. Ft walton ]Was fixin to get about 2 weeks of cold weather so i decided to remove my back wheel from my bike and then ordered a new Dunlop tire off the internet. Got the tire Wed and took it to my local indy where he installed the new tire and balanced it for 30 bucks.
I told him my old tire had a little over 15000 miles on it. He could not believe it, he told me that whatever i was doing to keep doing it.I told him i check pressures weekly, and do very little engine braking etc. He told me that MOST bikes that come to his shop have LOW air pressure when he checks them.Alot of folks do not like the Dunlop tires [k591], but i decided to stay with them with these results. [ Its 19 degrees as i type this tonite ].

I've had similar results on a Shadow and two ElectraGlides over the past few years. EVERY shop I talk to says the same thing - almost no bikes come in with the proper tire pressure.

It's easy, cheap, and quick to check and correct. I have a compressor so I check all the bikes, car, and truck about once a week. BTW, I've never had an issue with the stock Dunlops H-D puts on the Glides. I did notice they have Michelin's on some (all?) of the new Dynas.

If the Michelin motorcycle tires are as good as their car and truck tires they should be an excellent tire.

I just installed the Michelin Scorchers on my ride. Also went with new wheels while I was at it. I used the Dyna Beads for balancing and so far these are very smooth. Nothing like some of the posts I read where these came OEM and had a vibration around 35-40 mph. They seem much more predictable than the stock Dunlops, but I"m also going from old to new. My rear was shot and the front had some left on at 7500, but I swapped them both as I wanted the same front/rear. I will say that the Michelins are much better on grooved pavement. The dunlops would wander and these you can barely tell the pavement is grooved.

I hope the mileage is better than the stock ones (old stock and these are now OEM on 2010).

Yeah, that could be partially due to old v. new. A worn front tire will follow every groove or snake in the pavement. Put a new one on and its like night and day. But I gotta figure the Michs are probably better handling-wise. Will be interesting to see what the mileage on them is.

Also depends on what kind road surface you have to ride one. Where I'm at, the surface is fairly rough aggregate.... my K591 only gave me 5500 miles.

BTW.... as it relates to tire wear, it doesn't matter which side of the rear wheel the stopping resistance comes from....

But.. make sure you do a proper rear wheel alignment when you remount your wheel, and then do a vehicle alignment.... you'll appreciate the results.
