Default New bars, dimpled or not?

Hi all
Thinking about changing bars again. The bars i,m looking at are low rise (3") superbike bars. They are 1" dia. not drilled or dimpled, but i intend to wire them internally. The drilling part is no problem but do the bars need the dimples or are they only for externally wired bars? Thanks in advance.

dimples are for external wiring, no need if your going internal

Dimples are for '83 and later stock controls with the wiring outside the bars.....That is not to say you can't drill a hole and run the wires inside with the dimples. As a matter of fact, the dimples make it easier.

If my memory serves me correctly, if you want to use non-dimpled bars with '83 and later controls and not do internal wiring, you gotta notch out your control cover a bit to get the wires thru.

Hi Cornishman as the others have said, if you're going internal with the wires then you can prob get way without the dimples. However, after havng just fitted new bars to my Dyna (wired external) I think the dimples would actually help you get a better "flow" for the wires into the bars (if you see what I mean). If you just drill a hole and pull the wires through, there will be a bit of a bend where they could chaff on the hole edges, if you got dimpled bars the hole could be drilled at a bit of an angle to give a better line for the wires to follow. As I say - never done it but I did consider the possibilty when mine was apart, and that was just a thought that struck. Be interesting to see what the others think.

make oval shaped holes in the bars to make wiring very easy. Don't just drill a hole, and of course no need for dimples.
