I look at a lot of the catalogs online ... sometimes download it so I can peruse it while offline.
I got a CD with the Dragbook on it, but usually just look at online catalogs for Paughco, VTwinMfg, Custom Chrome, or look at the websites for the manufacturers such as Progressive ... a lot of times they link to catalogs where their stuff can be bought.
The Jireh website is not real user friendly for finding stuff, so I requested their paper catalog.
As far as finding stuff for your specific year ('01 FXDL) ... you just have to read the specifics as far as 'fitment' ... also, you have to kind of think about it and figure out if there are parts that 'should' swap out on your bike (even though it says they won't fit) ....
Think about it, the big twins (88, 96) are all pretty much the same ... bottom end, jugs and heads ... so ..... Some things to think about though if you try to adapt Softail or Touring parts is that the Softail 88/96B motor is hard mounted (vice rubber mounted) so if you try using Softail pipes, you'll have to come up with brackets that mount on the motor/trans vice the frame ....
I've got quite a few parts on my bike that are not supposed to work on a Dyna .....
Depends if you want HD parts or aftermarket parts. Lots of places will send you catalogs for free. I get several but don't necessarily buy from them. But at least you can see the items and part numbers to search ebay or the web. Jireh cycles, J&P Cycles, and the HD P&A Catalog are a few too look for.
I do most of my research online. You can find amazing deals if you look hard enough. I get most of my ideas from these forums and bikes I see on the road.
