I guess I could unscrew the shift rod and remove the entire apparatus from the frame mount and work from there.

Can you cut the bolt with a Dremel or moto tool and a tiny cutoff wheel?

good job. i miss threaded mine and had to relpace the same bolt.

Congrats! Just make sure the replacement bolt is a grade 8 or s/s of the same hardness. Cheap import hardware tends to be just that, crap and can snap again if overtorqued. Glad everything worked out.
