Hey all...New HD-Forum member, New Harley owner....
I noticed when braking with the front brake, there is a clicking noise. Not a thump but a general clicking or slight knocking and it slows as I do.
The noise definatley slows in repeditiveness (sp?) as I slow down. Somebody explained it as it was due the holes in the disk. He has a single disc, and it's not as lound as the 2010 dual disk. While this make sense to me, i figured it was worth checking out more with other owners.
So is a clicking/knocking normal? Only happens when braking, and diminishes as I slow down. Thoughts comments?
Not normal. Better do a critical fastener check on your bike and make sure everything is tight and your caliper is not moving around. Also the brake pads could be hanging up. I use a very small amount of permatex silicone brake lubricant on the back of the pad between the pad & piston. Keeps them from making noise.
OH yeah....Welcome to the forum! Go to the new members section and introduce yourself.
BEFORE you ride the next time, check the front brake caliper mounting bolts and brake pad retaining pins to ensure they are not loose. If nothing is loose, and if the brake operates correctly for all ranges of braking (from very light to very heavy - check it in a parking lot - not in traffic), then ignore the clicking until you get a chance to have your dealer check it out under warranty.
Mine has been making that noise since day one. I have checked everything several times and can't find anything wrong. You only hear the clicking sound when you apply the brake.
No it's not a buzzing sound. It's a tick, tick, tick sound when the brakes are applied. Since I can not find anything wrong I am thinking it might have something to do with the floating rotors.
Yeah it is defiantely a "tick tick tick" sound and slows down as I do. Probably normal but I will still mentionit at the dealer and see what answer they give me.
I have a 2010 FXDC and have the same clicking noise. Not every time, but just occasionally. I ask the dealer and he said that was normal and not to worry. The brakes work fine just that click every once in awhile.
