Default interesting first post...

well, i really didn't want my first post to be of the "help me please" variety but fate has intervened. a little introduction before i get to that though. had a 1990 1200XL for years before i finally bit the bullet and got myself a street bob in late may. i absolutely love this bike. nothing against sporty's or sporty owners (my sporty served me well for a long time) but moving up to the dyna class has made all the difference in the world for me. before, i would ride for an hour or two and would get pretty sore. now, i can ride all day long with no damage. i'm 6'1" and the sporty frame just didn't cut it and it led to me riding a whole lot less than i wanted to.

and now on to my problem. i have both a dual seat and a solo seat. i haven't bought second fender insert yet and have to switch the insert position every time i switch the seat. yesterday i was removing the insert from the front position and accidentally let it slip. it bounced down the front of the tire and never came out the bottom of the bike. it took me well over a half an hour to find it - somehow it bounced up on top of the drive belt, go figure. this is a VERY tight space and i can barely get even a finger in there. i could touch it but it was wedged up against something on the outer edge of the belt. i was trying to pull the insert towards the middle of the drive belt that way i could simply roll the bike backwards, and the insert would just come to me. while i was doing that i accidentally pushed the insert off the front of the belt, over the drive pulley. it's now in no-man's land. anyone have any good ideas for getting up into that area to retrieve it without pulling the entire primary off? i'm going to try to get in there with a magnet after work, but it's a REALLY tight space!

Good luck. You really did get that into nomans land. You may have to pull off the entire primary if you cannot get it out.

and welcome to the forum.

Yikes..... You may have to go the total primary removal route... First off we have all done simular stuff... The mag may work but, it has to be short and handle skinny I have a a long skinny item that has three prongs (that look like that arcade game where you try to pick up a prize and drop it in a bin) the other end works like hypodermic needle the whole thing is about 20" long I think I paid $12.00 for it about 15 years ago at NAPA... That I think it would get it out, cause a magnet will usually drop it if you hit anything on the way out...
Now after you get it out... why don't you do a search on using a detachable seat like a pill to your solo seat. Phreak and myself and others use ours with no problems... '06 don't have a detachable seat kit yet but, Phreak has come up a way to use a kit from prior years and it takes just minutes to install and remove... GOOD LUCK...WELCOME ABOARD...Skee[sm=biker2.gif]

Try washing it out with a hose or a magnet if you can get it in.

I've used 2-side tape/sticker (cut down) to get light parts. Stays on a little better than a small magnet. Even fish tape to bend around tight areas.

I cant help you with retrieving the bloody thing, but I can tell you that the way I moved mine from hole to hole was to use a 3/8" drive extension with a universal joint on the end. Put a nice dab of grease (or double-back tape) on the end uf the universal joint, stick the blind nut to it and then slip it up over the tire and hold it in place while you attach the clip.

Good luck and welcome to the forum!
