Default Silent Regrets

I am going to start this Thread as a list of recommendations/tips to others of experiences we all had with accessories or things we bought or did on our streetbobs which over the time we regret and consider waste of money and nerves .

Thinking of Changing Handle bars ?
Be very careful what you choose and make sure you mock them up as best you can.
Until your bars are off and the new one fitted you aint going to know for sure that you have made the right choice , what looks great on someone elses ride doesnt mean they will suit you or the bike.
I went through 3 sets before finding a set that looked ok and were comfortable each time having to pay labour and the for the bars.
1st set beach bars - awful and uncomfortable.
2nd set Chubby apes , looked rubbish and were a nightmare at high speeds.
3rd and final set Roland sands , expensive but i love them.

I've been fortunate so far and everything I've done to my bike has turned out ok. Well, except for the highway pegs I had, which I couldn't stand, but that was fixed with forwards. Now I'm working on putting together a FXDL tank for my FXD so I can get rid of the handlebar mounted speedo, new bars, new risers, new bars, the speedo on the tank, etc. I'm really hoping that the $$$ spent on this will pay off, look right, and work out like I hope - and that it's not a big waste. I don't want to be disappointed at the end.

with me it was also bars.
I tried like hell to like the drag bars I bought, even tried a few different risers.
The day I gave up and put my 12" bars back on was a huge relief.

I regret not going a little deeper and changing my head gaskets to .030's when I had my rockers out for a cam change.

I wish I had gone with Ricor or similar valves instead of the progressive fork springs. It's better than stock, but I think I would have been happier the other way (and I'll probably end up doing it anway). Shoulda done ome research...

Black Denim paint, looked cool in the show room was ruined the first time I rode the bike to work.

Easy Brackets, rattled to beat all hell and never looked as good on my bike as the throw over slant bags without them.

Rev Tech DFO completely useless with the newer FI.

Progressive heavy duty 11" shocks, looks good, rides like hell. I should have kept my Electra glide air shocks and went with lowering blocks.

I'm kind of on the fence with the Motherwell rack they work good and look OK but dent your fender at the mounting points.

Wasting money on the Harbor Freight jack and HD adapters and not buying a J&S or Pitbull jack the first time around.

I didn't like the Sundowner seat either, but I got back a good portion of my money reselling it.

HD heated grips. They work great, but they broke after less than a year. I'm on my second set, so we'll see how they do this time around.

I don't really have any regrets in doing/buying stuff for the bike. Although I have a problem with not leaving things alone, and I'm constantly thinking of changing parts just for something different. I realized what my problem is, my bike is to the point where I'm totally satisfied with it's performance & looks. I think what I need is 2nd bike to satisfy my addiction! LOL!
