Default Fork brace for 06 SG?

My parts man says I should put a fork brace on my FXD35. This bike has the largest tubes and axle of any bike I've ever owned. I normally don't slow down for curves much, however I'm not sure I'd see enough difference to justify the $200. Has anyone mounted one if so what do you think? oregonrider.

I put one on my Sportster for 5000 miles then took it off for cleaning. Did not notice any change in how it handled once it had been removed...

I have a Wide Glide and considered a fork brace. After doing some reseearch here and elsewhere I decided agaisnt it. The consensus is you'll not notice a difference.

The only times you'd need one is if 1.... you are racing the bike, or 2.... it's got a wideglide frontend with a single disk brake. It also helps slightly with the narrowglides w/ single disk. I use one because I spend a lot of time on twisty mountain roads. I also use a steering stabilizer. Between the two parts, the bike handles like a dream.

Idon't think I'd care for the looks. Won't put one on unless there is a very noticable improvement. I do spend as much time as poss. on twisty mountain roads, hard to avoid since I live in the mountains. I'm going to switch to the screaming eagle tires,180 on the rear, 100 front. I'll let you know how they feel. oregonrider.

I've tried those tires. I like the Dunlop GT501 for good traction on the back roads and in the rain. They cost less than the SE tires (what else is new?) and work even better. The D404's aren't bad either, especially considering the lower cost. They just aren't good for the big dressers loaded down with crap.

Thanks spectrexx, I take it that the screaming eagle GT502s are the same tires as the GT501? oregonrider.

With the 49mm forks you shouldn't need a brace, they do help on the WGs with 41's . I've run them and it helps with stiction. If you don't do a lot of twisty ,bumpy roads you may not notice.

I can't answer that, since I can't find any reference to the GT502 on Dunlop's website. The only thing I did find out is that it will only fit the 04 FXSTDSE2 models and is a replacement tire for Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Wide Tire Kit P/N 44075-04. It's probably the same tire as the 501 that they renamed just because it has the SE logo on it. Who cares what a tire says on it? Having a particular logo on it doesn't make it perform any better, so why pay more for it? They want almost 200 bucks for that tire! What a rip-off! [:@]
