Default Fat bob stock shock size

Anybody happen to know the stock shock size on a Fat Bob? I'm thinking they are 12". I would measure myself but bike is in storage and I want to order some better shocks for it. I was thinking some Progressive 440's but if someone else has some input I would gladly consider it if it was around the same price.

The stockers are 12".Most guys here with experience will urge you to spend a little more and go with works shocks or Ohlin's as long as your about to spend the money on 440's. It's all a matter of your weight, riding style, and preference IMO. I ordered my 440's from onestopmoto, they advertise here, and the price was real low at the time coupled with progressive fork springs as a bonus 444$ for the package . There were no 12" then so I went with 11.5,and was told I would not suffer for the difference. Sorry I can't tell you how they work because it is winter (arghhhh) and I'll be gettting it out in another 6 weeks-----> hopefully! cheers dude.

Yes the fatbob shocks are 12". You would be a crazy nut to buy 440's over some Ohlins or works performance for the same price(or less actually). The Ohlins are 1000x better than the progressives I wasted money on. Also according to last saint the works performance are 1000% better than the 440's he had on his bike. Why pay outrageous prices for an off the shelve shock that rides poorly vs buying a shock that will be tuned to your rider weight and riding style for the same price? Of course it's your money, do what you want with it. I just figured I'd try and save you making the same mistake that countless others have done with buying those shocks. Also anyone that tells you the are very happy with the 440's, well believe me they just have not had the opportunity to have works or Ohlins on their bike. If they did, they'd be singing a completely different tune!

yep stock shocks are 12" which is already considered a lowered shock since other bikes come with longer ones. I put 11" Progressive 412's on mine. Not the best shock but better than stock....what I could afford at the time. The 440's are probably better. I would consider a set from Works Performance also. Do some research and see what is best for you.

Rounder appreciate the input. What model Ohlins or works are you trying to lead me to and who is a good supplier to purchase from?

Talk about timely. I was looking into Progressives, Ohlins, Works, earlier today too. Seems to be an easy way to make a mod while I'm putting on the other stuff too. But I'm looking to go in the opposite direction and raise it.

I was looking at the 440's in a 12.5" or 13" setting to allow more clearance in cornering. If I do raise, it any other considerations to do? I've heard that with the FXDF's heavier end, it wouldn't really matter with chaning out fork springs. Any expeirenced opinions on this?

Still shopping for the rear shocks and found that Phat Performance (site sponsor) has good deals on Progressive shocks, much much less than the stuff they list on their home site.

Ohlins: Can't find anything for any Dyna past 2006. Any one got ideas? I was thinking that a little gold in the black scheme I'm moving to would be "nice"
Works & Ricors: Haven't really heard much of them, any one got posts on their performance? Found one for Ricors

www.worksperformance.com buy from them. Contact them on the phone and talk shocks. Look at their tracker series on the website, they have many finish options for you. They will sell them to you for less than their website pricing list. Cost and lowering wise, only the Ohlins I have, the s36 model, will work. Go to www.motorcyclemetal.com and navigate to dyna section and Ohlins shocks. They are the #2 shocks. Howard developed an 11.5" shock in conjunction with Ohlin. This is your only lowering option for Ohlins, all other models are 12" or longer(mine are 12") and a lot more money. Howard can have the shocks chromed or anodized, talk to him about cost and options. The Ohlins are really the best shocks in the world for motorcycles(tied with Penske brand). Works may not have the racing track record that Ohlins do, but for the money, I would say they are the best you can get in their price range(works trackers in 400 range, Ohlins like mine little over 500). They really are great cause of the combination of looks and performance they offer.
Kudzu35... all the Ohlins madefor dyna will fit your bike.... how in the world can't you find shocks for 06+ ? That's what they're made for.

One more thing about the Ohlins s 36. I rcecntly sanded down the shock body and ends and painted mine in black epoxy. The coating on them come off easily with 400 grit. The body and ends can easily be sand smooth 400-800-1000-1500-2000 grit and polished to look incredible as well. So you can get the shocks as is and then polish them to look like chrome basically. For a more detailed discussion on polishing, search the dyna forum for polishing fork lower legs. this is the same method you can do to the shocks. So in reality for about 15 bucks in sandpaper and polish you can make the shocks look as good as the works ones. Or just paint em as well. Also this model of shock does not require a spring press to get apart. The collars that compress the springs can be loosened all the way, then the springs have no preload on em and they come right off. Howard sells the shocks with chrome or black springs so you can run them as is, get a chrome spring and take apart and polish the body and ends, black spring polished body, all black. Up to you.

try Howards site... I posted it above, The Ohlin site probably is not updated(which is why it says to 06), and the 06 shocks are the same as 07-2010 anyways. They all fit. Also no prices on Ohlins site. Howard list prices, call and mention your on these forums and then see what he will do for you. He is an awesome guy and you'll probably make a new friend! That your going taller, the skys the limit for you as far as Ohlins are concerned! Be prepared to have the Ohlins be the best mod you will ever make to your bike... they are that good!
