there is a guy in the dyna forsale section selling a trunk like pictured above at a really good price check him out. I was going to buy it but think i will stick with my Tbag like Tadd pictured i still think i can get more in the Tbag but if you want a trunk hit up the guy in the classifieds its well with in the budget you mentioned and you could always strap another bag ontop of the trunk.
Here is pic of my tbag on a week long trip to the dragon and nc, ky, wv, i had all kinds of stuff in there and since then i have a lugguage rack and when wife goes i pack it on the luggage rack

To give you an idea here is the sissy bar iam running.

OK, here's where I'm at. The trunk seems pretty practicle, but the big T-bags probablly hold more. And since the are not rigid, odd shapped stuff is probablly easier to get in. The wife CLEARLY likes the studded leather t-bags since they will better match all the studded leather thats already on the bike like the seat, saddlebags and tank cover. Heres my BIG question of the day. The hard trunks are mounted directly to the bolt on luggage rack:

Would any of you guys have a concern that a full sized passenger would break one of those trunks off and possibly get injured. Is a three point luggage rack strong enough to support a 200 plus pound passenger leaning against it with 20 or so pounds of stuff in it.
I have never in my life heard of some one breaking off a sissy bar and t-bag. But these aftermarket trunks I know nothing about. Just kinda asking here. Maybe thats how they all have worked for years, I don't know. Just wondering if its a concern.

Please note my picture in post number one. Once you remove the sissy bar, that 3 point rack is all there is holding up the wife.

edit: You know, ohiosullys pic really shows something practicle. Boy, if your riding solo, you can face the T-Bags backwards for one heck of a great back support. Something you can't do with the trunks. Humm, thats one heck of an advantage for those times I'm one up long distance riding.

Bikerlaw what you mentioned is exactly what i and most people do makes a great back rest when your running long trip solo. And like you said being its a soft side i can shove that thing full. In the pic i posted i had my leathers in there a half shell helmet in there my camera, hygeni items, and enough cloth's and rain gear for myself for over a 5 day trip more than i needed. If i had saddle bags i could have put mine and her leathers in the saddle bags and packed that t bag with enough cloth's for both of us for 5 days. You got to roll things up tight and pack the hell out of it but you can get alot and i mean alot in that t bag. I believe i had 4 pair of pants, 4 shirts socks underware, sweatshirt and other items in there along with what was mentioned above. And the Deals gap resort we stayed at did my laundry so after 3 days there i left with all clean clothes agian for the rest of the trip was a great place.

Yeah, I think I'm sold on the t-bags. I like the ones you posted for obvious utilitarian reasons. But just because my bike is a disaster of black vinyl and chrome studs, I probablly should seek out a t-bag that matches such. See below photo:

Well if you're gonna get a T-Bag I gotta recommend the "Route 66" bag. I've used it on every long trip I've taken and it's the ****.

Here it is with the optional roll bag on top and mounted up on the bike:

Here it is with the rain cover -- nice for when you get stuck in bad weather. It's weather resistant already, but if you're riding in a bad soaker it's nice to have:

Here it is opened up so you can see that it has one large compartment, but on the front that opens up there's an area for maps, a lap top, or any other stuff you want quick access to. Also there are 4 pockets (2 on each side) that hold a lot of stuff (gloves, glasses, all that sorta stuff):

Here's the optional roll bag -- I use this on long trips as in the picture above, but it's also my daily bag that's always hanging from my luggage rack:

And then here's CoolRoy himself walking in to the hotel lobby like a bad ***:
