Default Install new headlight help???

I have herd a bunch of threads on installing a new headlight which requires messing with the harness. Can't I just cut the wires behind the stock headlight and splice the 2 wires from the new headlight to it and the tape?

I haven't installed or changed my headlight, but I can't imagine you couldn't do what you are asking. It's your bike, you can do what you want. I suppose it's just a matter of how clean of a job you can do with the splicing.

sure you can....but I don't think I would tape with all the nice connectors out there you could use. They are relatively inexpensive too. Check at an r/c supply place and get some nice gold plated solderable connectors (hobby-lobby.com etc.)

It's not that bad, just pull the pins from the connectors.

I cut mine and soldered that connections taped them and then shrink wrapped them gotta looks close to see that something was done. oh tried the waterproofing liquid tape, nasty *** stuff.

Depends on how good you want the installation to look. If hacked wires with electrical tape don't bother you... go for it.

If you don't mind spending a little time, popping the terminals out the housing and removing the entire harness from the stock bucket, and reinstalling in the new one... looks pretty good afterwards.

I did the same then finished it off with some wire wrap from cableorganizer.com <-- a link from JRK.

I cut my wires leaving enough on the oem headlight to sell or reuse the connector if needed. Then i soldered the new wires put heat shrink tube on each one and that was that you have to really look to see that i did anything to the wiring.

just unplug it from the harness pop the rubber boot out of the frame it's right there

unplugging the connector for the light and doing it right is probably just as easy as splicing, soldering and such.
