Ok, number one, I went out to my bike(that was sittin in the sun) and the front brake resovior top cover had the middle "button" popped out, leaking brake fluid. I popped it back in and it wasn't leaking anymore and the brakes felt fine.
the question is, WTF is that about??? did it just get hot and that button is a pressure relief valve or something? Or is it something I have to worry about?
next question, I'm fixin to replace my derby cover and just wonder if anything will leak out when I take the original off. If so, do I refill it at the oil filling? I'm a little confused with Primary crankcase oil, and engine oil.
not too sure about the brakes, but the derby cover was really easy. Just pulled it off, I had minor leakage, only about 3 - 5 drops come out, nothing to be too conserned with. But the new one on. I have 700 miles on her since with no problems.
never heard of the master problem. I think I would get a new cover. May have had too much fluid in there. Derby, no issue. Put a piece of 2x4 under the jiffy. remove and replace cover. doubt that there is any fluid lose. Primary and crank case per HD use same oil. I don't, I run 75w-90 syn in my primary.
went up to the stealer and he ordered a new cover for me. He also said the one on there looked ok, but just to be safe, he would go ahead and order it.
Got the derby cover on with no probs. Thanks for the 2x4 tip. Last time I needed a 2x4 was when I was "doin" my ex bitch of a wife[:'(][:'(]

Did you re-use the original gasket or replace it?
If so, with what part number?
THANKS!
you have to replace the gasket when you switch derby covers.
The original gasket is an O ring type gasket that sits inside the stock derby cover. The part number you need when you switch it is:
Gasket P/N 25416-99C. It's a solid gasket that covers the entire hole.
I went with the "Harley Davidson Motor Co" Derby, Timer, and Gas Cap cover. Also got the same type front axle covers.
Found a package deal (except for the gas cap cover)on Flea bay. Cost me a whopping 60 dollars (that included a brand new gasket they threw in for free) It was slightly used but in perfect condition.
what he said...but I run redline MTL in the primary........it's a GL4 oil with 5w30 pour characteristics so you won't get clutch drag whe the bike is cold plus it will go 10,000 miles easy. The primary & trans on your bike take 1 quart each. The drain bolt is on the bottom below the derby cover. I use a 1x8 under the jiffy.......no leaks and if you are careful you can re-use the gasket
