Default Inspiration (photo)

... for me, anyway ....

Just going through some photos and came across this old shovelhead Electra Glide ... looks to be late '60s or early 70's (cone vice flatside motor) ... electric start ...

I cropped the original photo so cut off a little of the accessories in the photo, but one thing I really dug about it is that (when dressed) it was like a modern E-Glide, but it was a convertible ... you could strip everything down and have what looks like a modern Dyna with a FL front end ... (although the bags come off a modern E Glide, the rear doesn't look anything like that now ....)

This was where I got a lot of my ideas to use the old style hard bags and to have a quick-disconnect fairing ... notice the E Glide also has a buddy seat and 'tour pack' ....

I am going to emulate it even further with some of the projects I have in the pipeline ... I'm getting a (right side) E Glide style pipe (see Paughco P/N 733C7) ... and the rear fender I just bought is an exact dupe of the one in the photo ... I would also like to eventually get some covered rear shocks ....

Have noticed a few others falling in line with the 'convertible' motif ... like Jackyl (QD fairing / tour pack), Ackman (FL front / hard bags), JRK5892 (hard bags / QD fairing in the works), U-234, etc. ....

I find it interesting that the MoCo decided to revive the nostalgic 'canned ham' A/C in the recently re-introduced 'Ventilator' A/C ....

I think the Electra Glide in the photo could use some mild apehangers ... nothing over 14" ... maybe 12" ... also, I'm not that fond of the 'bumper' on the front fender, but overall, some really cool classic American iron ....

Anyway ... hope you enjoy the photo whether it inspires you or not ....

I don't blame you. Both bikes are very nice. I may consider going in the same direction later. I've always liked Duo Glides myself. Great job on your scooter. I love it.

Chop, 66-69 were the years for the generator(flat side) shovels. 70 was the first year for the alternator (cone) motors.

Hey Don ... I was thinking the Flatside was a pretty short time span (late '60s) thanks for the data point ... I think I prefer the generator motors, but the cone type shovels are cool, too ....

Thanks for the props Green ...

Here's something else I've been thinking of ... get one of those battery covers with the lower section covering the starter and 'adapt' it to my bike ....

I really like the look ....

You lost me there, I've never liked that gigantic battery/everything cover. Check out this link, you'll love it. 30 something pages of sweet swingarm Fl's: http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/s...light=swingarm
