Default 103" build?

thinking of doing a basic 103" screaming eagle kit and just wondering what a good price is? is the se255 cams better than the 251 or what is the difference? where online is a good place to buy from? how much is everything including labor for everything usually? what can i expect to have for hp/tq from this kit? sorry for all the questions just trying to have an idea before i pull the trigger....

thanks again!!

What are you looking to gain from this build? I mean, do you ride mainly solo or 2-up or 50/50? More city and less highway or the other way around? Do you like to cruise around or do you like to run the rpms up? A lot of this will be deciding what cams your going to use. These are some of the questions the builder should be asking you. A typical cookie cutter se build w/255 cams will probably put you up in the low 80's hp and high 90's tq. And your looking about 8-10 hrs. of labor. Total cost I would guess to be around $1600-$1800 including dyno tuning. But if you really want to make that 103" come alive, go with a good cam for your riding style and get the heads worked to match and them #'s will be in the triple digits! Getting the heads ported & polished should only run another $400 or so, but everyone will agree is well worth it!

Just recently, a month or so ago, lots of dealers were doing them for around $1500 OTD.

i ride alot with the wife but since shes now pregnant mainly just alone.... i like to mainly just cruise but enjoy the occasional blast off the line... my dealer has talked to me about this but says he would recomend the se251 or something with an "E" after it.... was just thinking of doing the basic 103 then the heads while im deployed.... how much does the short shot exhaust hurt me? also will my bike still be under warranty?

The short shots aren't the best pipes around for performance, but then again they say thats true for all 2-2 pipes. The dealer should give you some kind of warranty on their work, atleast until your factory one runs out. The whole "E" thing with the cams is they are suppose to be made especially for fuel injected bikes. But you don't have to use only them, there are a ton of cams out there, but they might give you a hard time if you don't use the se cams and something happens.

Knowing your wife will eventually get back on with you, I would say the 255's. There good for low end torque and thats what your going to need for 2-up riding. I haven't heard the 251's in a bike, but here's a older video of mine when I had the 255's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3INo0T_ABc

I would definitely recommend them! At first my dealer didn't think I would need them, so they didn't install them. Then middle of summer I started having problems with trying to start the bike when it was hot, it eventually killed my stock starter. So this winter I had my heads ported & polished and while they were off they installed the releases. The dealer replaced my starter free of charge, but I paid the $101 difference and upgraded to the chrome high out-put starter. Save yourself a headache and get them installed even if they say you don't need them. Better to have them and not use 'em, then not have 'em and wish you did!
