Default Misfiring Lowrider

I know this is a long shot and several things may be causing this. I have a 1999 Lowrider. In 5th gear at about 45 to 55 mph it will miss and backfire out the exhaust. When I downshift into 4th and slow it stops. It doesn't do it all the time. On a 2 hour ride it will backfire 4 or 5 times. I put HD gas treatment in. It seems to help but has not eliminated the problem. Any ideas. 10,000 mile service was done about 1500 miles ago. Could it be the ethanol in the gas? or water? Thanks for your suggestions. I hate to take to the dealer and wait aweek or two to get the bike back.

Did you replace the spark plugs at 10,000?

cold weather causes the carbed bike to run a touch more lean than warmer weather. So the cv carb will occasionally pop if your running lean in that range for the temperature. 45-55 in 5th is low rpm so the carb will stop this condition if you can turn your idle screw out another 1/4-1/2 turn richer. Currently my idle screw is out an extra 1/4 turn or my bike will do this too. Hope this helps you. Also the reason you experience it at 45-55 at that rpm range is the cold air is rushing in the carb and cooling it at a faster rate than at lower speeds and less wind. Kinda a wind chill factor effect. More noticable on an open a/c system like my RSD intake. The good news, If this is the reason, it means your not running your carb too rich like so many do. Oh yeah, this is also more prevalent if your carb slide hole was drilled out to 1/8 inch like many people do.
