ok I know this was a long running thread and I READ MOST OF IT
but heres the dealio I am confused (even after reading manuel) do I need to take off instrument panel?
and is the fuel pump module directly under tank?
I attempted to start on this last nite while drinking and realized this needs to be done sober
stc13... If your doing the 3" tank lift on a Super Glide, SG Custom or Bobber... You don't need to touch the instrument panel at all... If your doing the panel removal for the vent line extention read the thread it mentions how you may not need to lenghten it at all.. Your basically just raising the front of the tank.. Good Luck... Send pic's when your finished..
Later Skee
ok so just disconnecting main fuel line at quick disconnect and the cross over line
I need to change with a longer piece to accomdate lift and the wiring connector
for the fuel gauge
thanks skee
stc13... The only disconnection needed will be the cross under gas line... That's really the only disconnection required.. You do not need to touch any fuel gauge wiring or any wiring.. You may tug gently on the wiring harness to see if any slack is needed.. you probaly won't need any... as Ronnr said, he didn't need to disconnect anything.. But, if you do the full 3" lift you should cut the cross under hose an replace it with a longer one... I'd be afraid down the line that the rubbing on the existing gas hose and the frame may wear through the hose.. So I would change it out.. So please read ALL of the thread... I give you info on how to cut and drain the the tank of the left over gas.. You need to empty the tank by siphon or running it dry your..call.. catch ya later..Skee
disconnecting main fuel line at quick disconnect
At the risk of me sound dumb (wouldn't be the first time..LOL) I don't know what you mean by this?? The only hose you deal with is the cross under hose... No mainline disconnect...
dont you need to disconnect the cross over line like skee said?
I have the bob and it looks like the crossover will hit the frame?
did you do this by yerself? I feel as though need an extra hand holding the tank
No .. Mine was the 2 1/2" kit.. 3" probably would have been a little tight...
If your going for the 3" then you probably will need to lengthen the fuel cross over tube...
Sorry I didnt make this clear on my first post...
here is where im at... tank bracket on bike ...took off bolts that hold tank
but when I raise it up the speedo wire
and the crossover line seems to be keeping me from getting that last 1 inch
I have the stuff to change out crossover so thats my next step.
I'm not sure I'm following all that you're asking.
You will need to lengthen the crossover fuel line. You will probably need to lengthen the vent line. Go ahead and remove the tank cover so you can see what you're dealing with. It's just three screws, two on top an one at the back. The wiring may be a tight stretch depending on how much slack your harness has. The main part of your wiring harness is in the top frame tube. The cover is a plastic cover on the bottom of the top frame tube which is easy to remove if you need to get in there to tug around and get a little more slack.
To replace the fuel crossover, clamp off both sides of the lines with vice grips, cut the line at the center and insert one end into a piece of garden hose running into a bucket, loosen the vise grips on that side, drain and repeat on the other side.
PM me if you want my cell number and I'll be glad to try to help if I can.
