What if you sewed or attached a soft backing to the backside of the bags (cotton, microfiber etc)?

I've been debating whether to do this or whether I wanted the sissybar and saddlebags to be independently removable. It sounds like the set up is quite strong. No twisting or rattling of the side plates or anything like that?
