I'm thinking of moving from a 97 Electra Glide Standard to one of the dynas. I find 95% of my riding is within one day of home. I still need saddle bags sometimes and a windsheld most of the time. Has anyone converted from a touring bike to a dyna and been satisfied?
I sold my '95 Roadking and bought a 2006 Dyna Superglide. I don't regret it for one minute. Like you, I found I was mostly making solo day trips. I got very tired of the heavy FL wallowing around, I love the way my Dyna handles.
I do miss the hard bags and am still working on a good way to haul stuff on the Dyna. But that is part of the fun of getting a new bike.
I have the detacheable bags and windshield on my Dyna and they are convenient, practical, and very useful. I can go from bagger to stripper in a minute. I highly recommend them. I've used them on three-four days trips and overnighters. Also convenient for carrying coats and other stuff.
I really like the look of your Dyna. How do you like the wind-debris protection of your windshield? I am looking to buy one for my 06 Superglide but havent decided just yet between the Standard Height compact windshield or the Touring windshield. I think the standard height compact windshield does look better though.
Mine's the standard height windshield and it performs well. I've had it for a year now and it does a nice job of keeping the major wind blast off but allowing enough to enjoy the ride.
Thanks for the helpful advise and your pics show me just how mine will look with the bags and windshield. Do you know if those quick detachable bags will work with the rigid sideplates and sissy bar? I like the looks of your bags better than the other bags that HD offers but since Im pretty satisfied with leaving my two-up seat and sissy bar on I wouldnt have a problem with rigid saddlebags either.
I'm on my second Dyna , for day trips and twisties they are the ticket. I've taken longer trips , up to 4 days , but a bagger is better for that. The new Dyna's are great , with the 6 speeds, 49mm forks and now the stroker 96" motor they are a great way to go.
