Question Detachable Saddlebaggs

Can anyone confirm what one of my local parts guys told me. I have an 04 DWG and want to put on a detachable sissy bar and detachable saddlebags. I bought the sissy bar, side-plates, and docking hardware. When I went to buy the bags they are telling me to buy Part # 79300-04B which are not detachable however, my guy told me with the docking hardware I have, it is a simple conversion and they will be detachable. Anyone have a similiar issue or advice on this? All this b/c they do not make a HD detachable saddlebag for my year/model. Thanks for any and all input.

If you're interested in attaching the saddlebags directly to the detachable sideplates, so that both become detachable together, a member describes how he did it in post #8 here:
