Anyone have pics of your Street Bob with the stock laced wheels either painted or powder coated? Did you match the color of the bike or go with something different?
Will pc wheels be easier to keep clean - I really hate polishing the spokes all the time.
I've seen em painted and powdered initially allot more work than polishing them once in a while that's why I haven't done it .But you only have to do it once.If you're going to go that route it would probably be smarter to powder coat because it's tougher than paint and when ever you have your tires changed they're likely to scratch your rims regardless.I have had rims that were painted, polished aluminum, and chrome. The chrome ones are usually the ones that don't get beat up when they change the tires.

Thanks, Special. Not sure I'm following when you say "a lot more work than polishing them". Do you mean the process of pulling the wheels and having them powder coated is a lot of work? Or that cleaning them after they've been pc'd is more work than taking care of stock wheels? Seems to me that once they're done the pc finish would be a lot easier to hose off and less susceptible to pitting and corrosion.
i had polished spokes on my bob, but i decided to paint them. the process took a while to do cause of the sanding and prep work but the results were better than i expected.
Can I paint my spokes with an oil-based enamel paint and still true the wheel if necessary? It's the same paint a few on the board used to paint their shock springs black (will move with the shock and not chip). And with the paint on there, will it un-balance the wheels?
I'm not worried about chipping or scratches, I can always repaint. And this it really only a temporary solution until I get money set aside for my new cast wheels.
paint does not hold up for long on wheels, they flex to much... In the past i have treid several times to paint spokes but always had crap results after a while they look great when done then jsut blah!
now i powder them all and they look great, super easy to clean, and last forever!!!
here are a few we have done... have some wild combo's in the shop right now for customers
here are some wheels we have done in spokes
all black
(even coated is weights prior to balance so it was all black)
metalic bronze
black with military green
all black, twisted spokes, black rotors, and black pulley
