Default illuminated mirrors HD

so I just got a pair of HD illuminated mirrors and I see I have to pull the tank off to install them... really? So much for a quick 30 mins install. Has anyone put these on their Dynas? How big of a pain in the **** was it?

2 bolts hold that tank on. Disconnect fuel line and remove crossover line. I would advise on not removing it with a full tank it isnt fun, its just heavy. also use some vise grips to keep fuel from running out ouf the crossover line. then unplug the wiring to speedo tach etc, viola tank is off. I wont take long to do even with installing the mirrors. Save it for a crappy day and invite a buddy over to help.

I'm guessing that taking the tank off will make it a lot easier to get to the necessary wiring, however most of those wires in my little bit of experience can be fished out from under the tank. I've found that there was enough extra wiring to achieve what I needed to do. That's what I've done changing out my front signals and wiring, etc.

I am going to put the speedo/tach combo that HD makes for my bike that fits into the current speedo housing. Does the thank have to come off for that? If so I might just do it all in one project...

Personally, I would let the dealer do it if you've got the extra bucks. I can see a scratched tank or worse yet, you do the wiring, put it back together and it doesn't work or blows fuses. When It comes to electrical, I let the professionals do it. Less headache in the long run.

I've noticed HD instructions often have you pulling off the tank unnecessarily - most often to access wiring. You can usually just pull the front bolt on the tank and stick something under it (I use a small chunk of wood) to hold it up.
