Default Need help with transmission cover!!

I have an 06 Dyna with 6 speed. I bought a chrome side cover. Anyone change these out? I am worried about the clutch cable. How hard is it to disconnect that and re-install that since it runs through the cover. Thanks

As far as I remember, you should be able to remove the bolts, pull the cover off slowly, and remove the cable from the coupling behind it.
watch for ball bearings.
Hope this helps.

you will need some good snap ring pliers to remove the ring.
The threads can be difficult to get started on the cable, it is sort of at a strange angle.
And most importantly don't over tighten the cable it will snap pretty easily

If you don't have a service manual buy a used one off ebay. They sell for $20.

OHMATMAN - how did you ever make out with this? Any issues with the cable or falling bearings? What about oil loss? I'm going to be changing mine out shortly. Appreciate any advice. Thanks.

There is only a small amount of oil that comes out when you remove the cover. If you want to avoid any loss just drive the bike up on a couple of 2x4 pieces of wood. The extra tilt you get will keep the oil in the transmission.

Be VERY CAREFUL not to lose the ball bearings in the coupler, those buggers bounce and roll like no ones business. Also you will need a heavy duty set of snap ring pliers, that ring is a bitch.

For those only changing the cable, do NOT remove the snap ring and arm, you can unhook the cable without doing that and then you do not have to worry about the bearings.

Be VERY careful when re threading the clutch cable. I stripped one in a cover and had to buy a new cable and new cover because I went too fast. Try threading it upside down very slowly. This allows the cable to twist in the air freely and allows you to thread the cable slowly. Also the threaded nut is hollow so careful not to put any undue side pressure on the cable when threading it. It really is very simple if you take your time with it.
