Default 05 Dyna charging issue

I've seen the 06's had stator problems but didn't see the 05's listed with this.
On a few occasions while riding I will notice my battery light come on for 5-10 seconds then go off and not see it again. My rides into work were 20 miles. the light would come on about 10 miles into it. Never had any starting issues but have seen the light stay on for 5-10 seconds after starting. It doesn't happen all the time. Bike only has 3500 miles on it.

thoughts??

Your bike is a 2005, get a new battery.

Curious why you would say battery? Never has a problem starting. Like I said, that light comes on maybe 5-10seconds on a 30 minute ride

Well go see a mechanic and the battery is probably the first thing he'll be looking at.

Good luck,
Mike

Get a smart battery tender, put a complete and full charge on it. Once that's done take it out, if it isn't already, and get it load tested. Before you reinstall the battery or put in the new one, clean the connectors real good. Is your bike EFI? If you get stranded with a dead battery, no volts, could be a little difficult to bump start. If you elect to jump start be very careful you don't fry nothing. The charging systems on the Dyna's are minimum at best, a 30 minute ride is only providing a "surface" charge. The battery is 5 yearsor older, consider a replacement.

I always keep a battery tender on it. Yes, the bike is EFI. The battery has never had a hard time starting. I just noticed the battery light come on during my last half dozen rides. Sometimes it will come on a others not. When it does come on it stay on for maybe 5-10 seconds midway through my ride.

If I ever had a hard start I would tend to believe it was the battery, especially at 5yrs old. That has not been the case

my 04 has similar issues... until the day it died when I was on the freeway... I replaced the battery and keep it on a tender during long periods of time when I'm not riding it..

Really, if you still have the original battery, spend the $60 on a new one. It might solve your issues. I think every 3-4 years you are supposed to change your battery. I would bet that is what is going on. Over time, even with use, batteries lose their efficiency and don't work like they should. Sure, right now you have no problems with starting, but one day you may stop to see a site and not get going again.

But of course, I'm not you mechanic, so pay him $300 to tell you to buy a $60 battery first.
