It's the trans pulley nut, behind the outter primary. I wouldn't think that nut has to be so tight since it has a locking plate to keep it from rotating. It's printed right on the pulley-- RH THREAD. And I double checked w/ the service manual. I'm wrenching so hard it broke my locking tool and it's starting to indent the nut where the socket is bitting. I'll try heat next, but not sure what eles to do.
It needs some heat and to be shocked. You need a HIGH torque impact, as suggested in the thread, maybe a 3/4" electric rental would shock it enough. Standing on the bar is not providing the proper shock load to break the locktight and the preload on the nut.
Cheap impacts and low pressure compressors sometimes have a hard time getting lug nuts off a cage.......
I cut mine till near the threads tap tap it broke//
I ordered a new one..
That nut should be changed in my opinion..
For 10 bux why not
This is pretty solid as well. When doing a ring and pinion in an axle, most come with new ring gear bolts and pinion nuts (if they don't, they still need to be replaced) as the old ones stretch when that much torque is put on them...and can fail if reused. The key word is CAN...not WILL.
Thanks guys, I started to put heat yesterday but my propane ran out. My plan is to stop for some MAP gas on my way home from work and try again tonight.
I phuking give up! That nut is not coming off in one piece. I kept heat on it for 45min. and the impact didn't touch it. I put my socket wrench on and hit the end of the handle with a 3lb. sledge and all I did was break my locking tool and the pulley (good thing I was gonna replace that pulley anyway). Tonight that sucker is getting cut, chiseled and beat off. I've dealt with some suborn fasteners before, but nothing like this.
