Default Trans. Pulley Locking Tool.

Ok, What did everyone use for holding the Trans pulley while wrenching on that 2 1/4" nut. I was able to use a small "C" clamp to get the 2 SHCS out. Do I need a bigger clamp? Will an impact wrench do the trick? Do I need to be thinking farther outside the box?

When Joe and I did his, we used a locking tool. He borrowed them from a HDF memeber.

I hung some weight on the rear brake pedal. Definitely use an impact, my sorry 1/2" air wrench could not do it. I rented a 3/4 electric and problem solved..........

I'd love to do this , but I'm a little dubious about tearing the primary open . Also , it seems to be a huge cost . The pulley , the socket , all the gaskets . What is the over all cost ?

I think I'm gonna build a tool similar to this.

Jason...I'm at around $200 but I'm reusing the prim. cover gasket($30) and I already had sealing bolts in my tool box. But I did have to buy trans. seals. The main reason I'm doing this project is fixing a tras leak.

Sorry for the hijack, ... hope to remove my chain drive so I can install my BDL belt drive ... maybe tomorrow ....

Will start up a new thread with some photos if I get to it ....

p.s. those with '05 and earlier bikes contemplating this ... your socket is a different size (see Georges Garage tool page) ... I think it is 1-7/8" vice 2-1/4" ....

I was at around $210 for parts including a baker inner bearing, made my own socket like Hogrida did......

So I made a crappy locking tool, it works, but barely. My problem now is... that nut is stuck. I'm on it with a 4ft. breaker bar and can't get it to budge. I just hit it up with some PB Blaster and I'll try it again in the morning. I'm also gonna grab my old mans compressor and impact.

That sucker is STUCK! Can't get it with an impact. I was just bouncing on the end of a 4' breaker bar and the sucker won't budge. WTF?

Super loctite plus tons of pressure from running the bike. Try some heat to soften the loctite. Bouncing on a 4' bar is about par for the course.

You are talking about the compensator nut, right? Cause the clutch nut is left-hand threads (don't think that one's 2 1/4 IIRC tho).
