Help, wierd vibration at certain engine speed.
Well I just got the bike back from the dealer with the new 25 deg. injectors in and the re-map just like the bulletin stated. Well the vibration I had that was real fast and would basically put your feet and hands to sleep in a sense is now not as bad but has moved a bit in the RPM range. It is still in the lower RPM range. Feels like the motor is out of balance until it gets a bit up in the RPM range, then smooths right out. Not a real concern now that it is not as bad but still kinda bugs me. I am hoping it is just running a bit rich in the lower RPMs. Emailed Powercommander to see what they have to say. Anyone who has any more ideas I am up for them. Thanks for the responses so far.
Go back to the dealer and have them check the engine mounts. If they are tight then you may need to have your engine aligned. On the dyna they loosen all the engine mounts and run the engine for a few seconds to let it "center" itself then tighten the mounts. Better talk to the service manager.
I had the same problem with my 05' FXDL. It vibrated at most speeds although would smooth out at 70 mph or more. I had owned an 01' FXDL and knew something was not right. The dealer said to ride it for a while and at 1000 miles they would check it. Everything checked out ok and at 2500 miles I brought it back and said that I was sick of riding it (felt like an older Sportster with the slight buzz in the grips, etc.). The service manager test rode the bike and agreed that it should not feel like that. They then called Harley and went through a 10 step process including changing the rubber mounts. Long story short--they finally concluded the engine had a flywheel that must be out of the balance tolerance range. They completely replaced the engine with a new one and had the bike for over 30 days in the process. I was sick knowing that I had a Harley with a replaced (although new) engine and they said to try it and if I was not satisfied, they would make me a very good deal (if there is really such a thing) on an 06'. Anyway, the bike was a different animal after the engine swap and they did an excellent job--even giving me another 1,000 mile service for free. I say this to let you know that they did admit there was a run of Dynas that had this problem.
