Hi. Looking for a dyna, a nice ´95 popped up for sale, and I´ve seen that most parts are made to fit ´96 and later models. What are the differences in the early ´91-95 dynas compared to the ´96 to 04 years? Thanks!
H-D refesigned the frame in '96 to make it stiffer, they said. I think the backbone was also changed and frame changed so much most seats/parts from pre-96 don't fit later models. I have a '92, so I know the fitment issues you refer to.
The good news is there are still plenty of aftermarket suppliers to supply parts/accessories for pre-96 Dynas, it's just more work to find those parts with each passing year.
Starting in 96, newer electronic instruments were added and had a digital odometer. The biggest thing that was a weakness with Evo Dynas was the lack of structural integrity between the engine and trans. In stock form, it wasnt usually an issue, but a modified engine would stress that point in the frame. A carlinni torque arm solved that problem.
Hope its a good deal for ya... Evos are great engines and have a longer stroke than a TC.
Thanks a lot guys, I´m looking for an evo one because they are pretty much bulletproof. But maybe I´ll keep looking for a 96-98 with the easier parts availability..
