Well, a few weeks back I shimmed my front isolator per a suggestion from a forum member after explaining I had horrible vibes going on since installing the TT.
The gap wasn't huge. I used a washer that was 1/8" thick.
In the midst of painting my bike, I had resigned myself to riding it in primer for a while until after our TOTD meet next month. I just didn't think I'd get all the issues resolved.
Bottom line...I threw a gallon of gas in the tank and hit the road. Only good vibes. I'm fired up!
I don't remember who made that suggestion but a big thanks go out to you.
To do this, you put your bike on a jack and get her in the air. Get another jack, ( can be a small bottle jack or floor jack) and put it under your engine.. don't lift yet.
Loose both front motor mount bolts, then start jacking very slowly under the engine, while turning the motor mount bolts by hand. When you can turn both by hand, take a look at the space between your motor mount and the frame. That's the amount you want to shim.
Mine also took about 1/8" inch. Fender washers from your local hardware store work great for this.
However, I would recommend doing the vehicle alignment procedure, which part of, is loosening all your motor mounts, then running the engine at idle or just off idle for about 15-20 seconds. The procedure is called out in the service manual.
Someone posted some really good info in a previous thread I was working on. I'l see if I can dig it up..had some really good shim pics.
Adrian...if it was good, and now it's vibrating, I would take a look at the travel limiting screw. Mine backed out...Sniper77's backed out. If it does, it will make contact with the top TT mount and you get vibes being transferred.
I would check that first....then follow what Archer said.
Awesome! Thanks for the info. Bookmarked this page. Gunna take a look at it, and going to try this before I buy another mount.
Vic: I don't have a TT on the bike anymore. I sold it a while ago, but I was getting some terrible vibes when I did have the TT. Started out fine, but the screw you were talking about did exactly what you said and made for some nasty vibes. Fixed that, and it was much better.
