Vacuum petcock

So can I get rid of the vacuum operated fuel petcock on my 98 Vintage carbed bike without changing out the original petcock? Is there a kit or something I can purchase? I have never had a problem with it but at its age I'll bet the diaphragm is operating on borrowed time. Don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere Vermont. Thanks
