ok so when i got my 09 fatbob it had a recall on the pin that the spring holds on to. So I got that recall work done. a few months later my spring flew off while i was riding but i found it and rode over to the local dealer to have them replace the spring (under warranty and yes i know it is an easy fix) well the guy that looked at it said it was my fault it came off because i must of high centered the bike (that has never happened) and they told me the spring was bad and i needed a new one. so $10 for the new one and i was on my way again.
between then and the next time the spring came off(lost spring this time) i had only ridden about 500 miles or so. so the next chance i got i took it to the dealer again. this time they said the recall part was bad and they replaced it and i bought another $10 spring and went on my way.
40 miles and 2 days later i stop by my g/f house before i get back on the truck to drive for the week. we visit for a bit then i get on the bike push the jiffy stand up with my toe and it falls back down. THE F-ING SPRING WAS JUST HANGING ON THE STAND!!!!. so i put it back on and head towards home. i decided to stop for gas and when i went to stand the bike up and go IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! fixed it again and went home called the dealer and told them what happened. they want me to bring it in again which i will but this is just getting ANNOYING! has anyone else had this problem?
No I haven't.
I'm not sure how you're 'fixing' it in the drive way & gas station... the last time I worked on mine I had to 'stretch & pry' the spring back on.
I haven't had any issues at all with the spring on my Fat Bob.
I also got the recall letter and took it in to the dealer. Not exactly sure what (if anything) they did to it though.
But I haven't ever had anything close to what your describing happen.
Get a lawn chair strap it to the bike and head to the dealer. Park your bike in the service dept and open lawn chair and sit there until they fix it right. Never heard of that happening on a newer bike before.
09 FXDC and mine has came off 3 times in the past year. It is a bitch to put back on. I have not taken it to the dealer yet but if it happens again I will!!! Let me know what they do to yours to fix it. Thanks!!
I hear ya man, total pain in the a$$. I also have an '09 FXDF and mine has come off 3 or 4 times. First time it came off I lost it, dealer put on a new one at no charge. This last time it came off I bent one end into a tighter hook and also bent at an angle so spring actually lines up with stand.
The whole set-up is **** poor, if you ask me.
By the way I have never received any kind of recall notice from HD.
Was rideing my 05 FXDCI down the Interstate 10 with my Wife on back was comeing upto loop 410 in San Antonio ran over a piece of chrome that had been laying in the road and had several 1000 cars run over it. It came up off the pavement behind my front tire hit the spring just right and knocked it off the pin that holds it on. I heard a God Awful noise and my wife said the kickstand was dragging. I pulled over parked the bike walked back about 1/4 mile saw the spring laying on the yellow line between 3 lanes. It was 5:30 traffic was heavy, I managed to walk out across 2 lanes into the traffic stopping the cars and pick up the spring. A guy from Alamo Harley pulled over didnt have any tools but cut the drawstring from the waistband of an army field jacket and tied up the kickstand for me.... We headed back home passed by a brake repair shop .... Im thinking brakes and springs stopped and the guy's were able to put the spring back on for me no charge....... What a day. No Problems since but I know now it can happen.
