Default Don't you hate it when...

You follow the manual and have the proper tools (torque wrench), and do everything by the book...and just when you are getting that bolt up to torque little by little it starts getting easier to turn rather than harder!!

Just did that on my left side front rocker box cover middle bolt. It stripped the inside threads of the lower box unit that I just had powdercoated! Also did the same thing to the left forward fender strut bolt...bolt is fine but probably the backing plate threads are gone. Both still hold, but wont come up to torque. Ugh. Always something.

You're taking it much better than I usually do. There would be a short moment of silence followed by a rather long string of four, five and six letter words. Thank God for heli-coils, not that you want to pull anything off if it's not leaking but at least you can take some solace when the time comes.

The fact that this happened to TWO bolts makes me wonder if your torque-wrench needs to be calibrated?
Just a thought...

+1. I've never stripped threads following the correct torque specs. (Did a few when I read in-lbs and my brain saw ft-lbs)

Two more to add to the list today...the bottom front axle cap has 2 Torx bolts and I rounded the torx part as they went up to torque. I had it calibrated, it's right on. My goal now in life is to never rest until all the torx bolts are replaced by allen head. At least there in there tight...no need to take them out until the next tire change!
