I'm going to upgrade my seat from stock on my 09 fatbob and am looking for some advice from people that have already done so. What brand did you go with? Where did you get it? Did it make a large or marginal improvement?
Thanks for all who respond.
I bought a stock 09 Street Bob seat to use for a solo and an HD Sundowner to use for when my wife is with me. I am happy with both however the solo SB seat is not really that comfortable, it just looks good IMO. The Sundowner is very comfortable for the passenger but I am not really happy with how it puts me farther forward and up a bit. With that said keep in mind that seat is for my passenger, not me. I am plenty happy with the SB seat or even the stock FB seat which is not that bad IMO.
If you are interested, I'm looking for someone to trade a stock fat bob seat for a 2010 stock wide glide seat w/ pillion. Also I believe that the seat on the new WG is the same as the St. Bob except the WG comes with a pillion.
I've got an 08 Fat Bob and put a Sundowner on it. Much more comfortable, but I will agree that it raises you up and moves you forward a bit. I also added the 6 inch pull back risers. Much better riding position.
Here is a copy and paste I keep for quick seat answers.
I have added the luggage rack as well.
#52159-06 pillow look seat $229.95
#52656-04 backrest pad $59.95
#52877-08 kit upright (sissy bar) $84.95
#52866-06 detachable sideplates $139.95
#53964-06 docking hardware $24.95
#53982-08 luggage rack $134.95

Hey i have a Sundowner for sale brand new used on two 1 hour trips with wife, i did not care for it moving me forward and up. I purchased a Mustang Vintage instead.
Alot of talk on this topic and I asked similar question myself. It appears to be a choice as to whether you want to get the most comfortable versus the best looking. Everyone raves about the sundowner but personally I think its fugly on the Fat Bob. I ordered a Danny Gray Weekender 2-Up XL which arrived and I installed late yesterday. The look is okay, I'm happy. Only done about 10 miles on it and it appears that it will be comfortable but really too early to tell. Appears to seat me fractionally forward and no higher.
I loved the Fat Bob stock seat when I test rode the bike. Is there anything like it for a Sportster or does it have a "name"? I have a 1200 XLR that I would love put a solo seat on that hugged my *** like the stock Fat Bob seat did.
What kind of seat are you looking for, solo or passenger? I bought the touring seat and it's very comfortable for both me and my wife. I don't really like how it looks though so whenever I'm by myself I just throw the stock seat back on.
