May be an alignment issue. I played catch-up to my bro and a friend on our '08 roadtrip ('06 Wide). They got a wild hare (hair?) up their butts and rolled up to 80 for awhile. I decided to make up lost ground after some time, and ended up at 90-95 for several minutes as I [slowly] gained back the space I'd lost. Never felt a bit squirrelly; very stable the whole time. Prob'ly wouldn't do it again...they gotta stop for gas somewhere!

Sorry, but I think you have the wrong brand if you want to ride fast all of the time. Compared to bikes made for high speed ours don't even come close.

Damn, I hope it was a hair and not a hare, that would be painful...or too damn kinky for me to ride with them...

The worse possible thing any new rider can do is to ride beyond their abilities. Unfortunately you read all the time how "new" and inexperienced riders end up being the star attraction at their own funeral. I realize it's very tempting to try to keep up with your friends but as someone else said "if they are truly your friends they will wait for you"
Now with that said let's get out there and ride, ride, ride! There is no substitute for seat time.

So I guess the main reason turns out being inexperience, potential tire issues with stock, possible stabilization possibly fixed with "Tru-Trac". As originally noted, I normally cruise 70-80, not the freakish 100+. That was just part of the question. I was more concerned that I may have something wrong or inadequate with the bike. It seems that there is just my seat time as the main reason. Not a problem fixing that. Thanks to all for great answers and reply's.

Good luck billjoat. And I think i can speak for all of us who came down a little hard on you and say it was just a little tough love....just in case you were really considering doing that. I don't think anyone on here wants to see another rider seriously hurt or killed. Ride on, and be safe.

Ride your own ride, and don't ever let anyone push your pace beyond your limits. That is a recipe for disaster.

If your friends won't take your experience and ability unto account, find someone else to ride with.

Never ride faster then you are comfortable with.
Let your friends know what speed you would me most comfortable with on the ride and they should understand.
Enjoy,
Tim

IMO any one driving their bike at 100 MPH for excessive periods of time is an idiot and an accident waiting to happen.
