Like I and others have said, Harleys aren't the bike if you want fast, but that's not a problem. Compared to my faster bikes that I've had, the Harley are unstable at faster speeds.
I suppose you'd have to ride others to feel the difference, and what would happen if you had any issue at all and had a flat at 80 as one of my friends did. He was lucky that he had a very stable bike that could let him slow down under control.
My current bike at 70 feels about like some of my previous bikes felt at 100!
I was late for work once,a long time ago,and was doing in excess of 100 on an empty interstate, something didn't feel right so i slowed, still felt funny,so i pulled over.I heard a sound like air, looked down and saw the imprint of a nailhead on the rear tire, where it had been thrown out at speed. If I wouldn't have slowed when I did,I hate to think what could have happened if the tire had deflated more at that speed.another time,I had the wild hair thing on another brand of bike, and at 110 it suddenly began an oscillating from side to side, uncontrollably throwing me toward the pavement.I lost the desire to ever go that fast after that.Never did figure out what caused it..but never wanted to test it to find out.
with the number of close calls, and the cages out there,it's bad enough staying alive at reg speeds, let alone trying it at a speed where you have no reaction time.
I had a bit of a wondering feeling above about 90 mph when my FXDC when it was new. Since then I had my dealer do some damage repair the the front forks. He had to readjust the triple tree tension, and now it is fine up to 105 or whatever. The forks from the factory were too loose.Enjoy your ride.
