Hi all,
I'm going to lower the rear of my '07 FXDC. To get a little extra clearance between the tire and the fender I am going to buy an low profile rear tire. Michellin has a model called "Pilot Road 2" that comes in 150/70ZR17F. Does anyone know of any reason that this tire might not be appropriate for the Super Glide?
Thanks!
It may just be me, but I don't think that tire is anymore low profile than the stock one. And usually everyone goes for a wider tire, but that's actually narrower than stock also. I went with a metz 880 180/55zr/18 and it's probably the lowest profile I would recommend. You need some sidewall or you'll really feel the potholes.
If you put a lower profile tire on the same rim, then the tire would have a smaller circumferance, and therefore, the speedo would not read your current speed correctly. Right? I guess it would think you are always going faster than you actually are, so popo shouldn't be a problem.
The 70 in the 150/70zr17 is the sidewall profile. That tire is 150mm wide and fits a 17"rim. That particular Michelin tire is a dual compound tire with harder rubber in the middle and softer rubber on the shoulders. I have the plain Michelin pilot with 5k miles on it and it still looks great.
BTW They make a 160/60zr-17 that would look a lot better on your bike than a 150. It's not any taller than the one you mentioned.
