Does the SE compensator kit 40274-08, contain the new spring pack and the sliding cam assembly? Are there any other items that have to be purchased to do this conversion on a 2007 Road King Classic. Mine sounds like the primary is coming apart when you take off from a dead stop or lug the engine any at all. From what I have read here, it sounds like my problem is the compensator sprocket.
The spring pack and cam are an intrinsic part of the compensator and are "in the box" Mr. Brown will deliver.
...and what you describe may very well be a loose comp sprocket and just needs to be tightened up.
Thanks Sniper77. I will check that first, but I have already ordered the new compensator. If I have to go in there, I might as well make the upgrade while I'm there. I just hope that takes care of the problem. I went for a short ride yesterday and it seems like it's getting worse. My next issue is the whining tranny. It's so bad it's getting embarassing to ride through a quiet camp ground or neighborhood.
I did the SE Comp in my B motor last year and it was indeed one of the better moves I've done. I won't have another bike without doing this mod.
It's a "must have", symptoms or not.
I've got my SE comp coming... I cringe every time I fire my ride up.. it jumps to life so hard and it sounds like someone give the engine a rap with a small ball peen hammer, when it takes that weak stock compensator to the end of it's travel... it's also gotten a lot noisier lately... I'm sure the stock comp is pretty much toast. Doing the chrome inner primary... and the SE comp at the same time.
