Hey all, I was just wondering how much of a pain in the a$$ it's gonna be to chang my stock bars on my FXBD. I've never changed out a set of bars with factory internal wires. Any help would be great.
Did you mean FXDB? as in Street Bob. The last time I checked they don't come from the factory with internally wired bars.Wiring the bars internally is a pain in the *** that's why I don't do it.If you're changing from the stock mini apes to something slightly taller or shorter its a piece of cake.

They are internal. At least from '09 up. I just did mine. Threading the wires through the bars is the easy part. Dealing with the connecters and stuffing everything back in the frame is the hard part and that you'd have to do no matter what.
It's definatly worth doing yourself rather than paying a shop. There is plenty of info on the subject just run a search.
Yep the newer Street Bobs are already wired internally from the factory. Me and a friend just recently put new bars on my bike and wired them internally. With the help of Mud's posts in this thread https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...h-my-bars.html the internal wiring was pretty damn simple really.

Steeler quoted me $1400 for chrome Bob Bars on my SG and to internally wire them, but I need new throttle cables and a brake line, still very rediculous.
Holy crap that price is crazier than a Richard Simmons video. Just buy the bars with controls and wiring already wired up from Hill Country Customs and bolt them on, plug the wires in and hook up the cables. Shouldn't even be half of what the stealer is trying to charge you.
I'm no bike mechanic and when I did my stock mini-apes (10") to apes (16") on my wg, I didn't find it that difficult at all. Take your time and it'll all work out.
If you search youtube, you'll find a video I did for molex connector disassembly. It's not necessarily the easy way but it does work.
One trick I have learned, having done a bar swap twice now is if you pull the wire loom through the bars first so it protrudes from both openings, you can pretty much just slide the wiring harness through with with minimal of problems. If it does get a little stuck, pull it (the harness, not the loom) back out and spray it with some wd-40. Should slide right on through. Oh and tape up the ends, as one bundle but try to keep them as tight and narrow as possible.
