Default HD questions

Hi, i'm wondering if you can tell me what the differences are between models. Just wondering what the difference between the FXR and FXD are? Plus do different models come in low-rider? Is suspension the only thing that makes it a lowrider?

Thanks

Not a 100 % sure but I believe the FXD replaced the FXR, difference is the engine for one, 1340 vs 1450. Also the low riders have a lower profile seat as well as a lower suspension.

The FXD slowly replaced the FXR series.

it started way back in 1991 with the Dyna Glide Sturgis....every new model year following 91 there was an additional dyna and one less FXR...until 1995 when there was no more FXR.

Both bikes came with the Evolution motor (1340 cc or 80 cubes)...the main difference between them is the way the frame is designed and the way the motor is bolted to the frame.

The FXR and FXD are both rubber mounted...but FXR's had 3 rubber mounts while FXD has only 2.

harley decided to drop the FXR in favor of the FXD's because the latter had a more modern designed frame (with Computer Aid Design) and was way cheaper to produce (required less welds).

In 1999, Harley ressurected the FXR's for a short time only...while experimenting with the new CVO division...the first bikes that this division put out were the FXR2 and FXR3 and in the following year there was an FXR4....those were limited numbered bikes with full of accessories on it.

Today you can only find dyna in the dealer showroom...the 06 model year still has the Twin Cam 88 while the new 07 line has the Twin Cam 96.

hope to have helped you a little.

Dan

Okay I have a question and try not to laugh to hard. What does FX stand for? I think I understand the others.
F=?
X=?
D=Dyna
B=Bob(Street Bob)
I=Fuel Injected

I think it donates the type of forks:
FL = touring and FX = other-than-touring.

Don't forget that FXR's were also built with the Shovelhead motor.
