Need some help. I'm trying to remove my oil filter and the shop that serviced my bike before I stored for the year put it on so tight that I can't get it to budge. I don't have access to a Harley wrench so I tried a strap wrench but the thing won't move. I know this will sound stupid but do I turn the filter towards the engine or the front wheel to remove it. It's so tight that I can't even tell.

To safe yourself some trouble and avoid a mess you'd better read this thread before you start taking off the oil filter!!
Had same issue with my bike (bought it used). I bought one of those wrenches from drag specialties and it came right off. On mine it was really bad because the only way I could get a good grip with a strap wrench would end up putting pressure on the 02 sensor.
I used an old BMW filter remover. Its a cap that sits over the filter with a socket attachment, makes removal a cinch. Also roll an old magazine cover or the like and put it under the filter to funnel away the oil when you remove the filter.......or have a mess on your frame etc. A torque wrench is useful to avoid stripping drain hole threads and preserving the O ring on the drain plug.
It might help to slide a metal pipe over the filter wrench handle to give yourself a little more leverage, and like everyone else said lefty loosey towards the tire.
Thanks for all the help guys, managed to get it off. I usually use the K&N oil filters because I like the nut on the end but I took it to a shop before storing it for a year because I didn't have time to do it myself and they put an HD filter on. What a pain.
