I've heard all this stuff about oil pressure and even the charging system. My bike doesn't sit idling long enough to run the battery down so charging isn't an issue. I can't believe that 200 rpm makes that big a difference in oil pressure at idle. Course if someone had a OP gauge we'd know.
With a SERT Pro I've had my idle adjusted down to 800 rpm for a while. Doesn't sound like a crotch rocket.
You won't a low idle? Dump the ECM all together. Don't spend a penny on a Thundermax. Buy an S&S carb kit and a Thunderheart ignition and convert that baby back to the way it should be. CARBED!!
That makes no sense at all...
...and changes nothing about the issue. Because the non-computer people find it easier to adjust the idle speed (turn a ***), doesn't make it healthier for the bike. Carbed Twinkies don't idle lower than EFI by design, but because owners play with the adjustments.
Here from the people that make your bearings. Low oil pressure is big thing on the bearing cooling:
If a function of lubrication is to control or cool friction-generated heat, then preference will be given to oil, which can flow away, dissipating heat while recirculated oil is introduced to induce relative coolness.
I like the sound of going down the road. So I guess I will just enjoy the 1000 RPM idle. She doesn't sound bad. The Thunderheader has some blat to it which is good, and after the bike has been ridden awhile the warmer idle sounds better than the first one of the day. I always allow the rocker boxes to get nice and warm before I take it out for the first time of the day, and never ride off with them stone cold after that. Take a few minutes for a walk around and put my gloves and garb on then time to roll out.
Thanks everyone.
