Also run the synthetic it wins every test there is.It does run about 20 degrees cooler.Your cams can't twist apart, they are one piece. They can't come apart.Don't lug your engine,it shakes the hell out of everything.

I was riding my 09 Road King Classic to work this a.m. at 6:00 and there was a big backup on Atlanta's amateur motor speedway aka I20. We sat about 1/2 hour dead and the bike eventually switched from the normal glugaglug idle to Heat Management mode where it went pop-pop-pop-pop like a big one lunger. Once the traffic started moving again it switched back to normal so it was seamless switching back and forth but I was surprised because it was only about 40 - 50 degrees F ambient so wait till the 100 degree days in July. whew! I use Harley full synthetic oil to keep this on topic.

You might want to consider addressing the root problem that causes the heat - the lean air/fuel mix. As at least one other post has mentioned, there are a number of fuel management options out there like Power Commander.

After I had my Dyna for a few months, I wanted to both reduce heat and get a better fuel mix to improve low speed performance (I don't mean much by this; just didn't want the bike to feel like it was going to stall everytime I was running real slow and have to slip the clutch all the time). I had success with XIEDs from niterider - they were a breeze to install and immediately lowered the engine temperature. I still run them now after putting on a Stage 1 filter and slip-on mufflers and the performance is great. I am planning on installing a Power Commander V soon to get some other benefits that a fuel management system offers.

I have the v&h drake a/c and the SE super tuner...I think its running hot because my leg is six inches from the motor and it seems like my pants are going to set fire! (like i am standing next to a open flame) as for lugging the motor I don't, just had a fellow biker tell me not to cause it will twist the cam ( just wanted a second opinion)

Damn, All you guys are wrong. Its not the cams that are a problem in a Twin Cam. Its the crank. It is a PRESSED three piece design and prone to both slipping and getting out of true. Welding the crank pin and Timken bearing upgrades go a long way to help prevent crank problems.

Do NOT lug the engine! If the piston is firing hard and the crank isnt moving due to a high gear, the crank is prone to slipping.

Did a stealership install and set the tuner for you? I wonder if they would be willing to adjust the tuner to enrich the fuel/air mix, given that such an adjustment would possibly not be compliant with the emissions standards imposed by the powers that be.

OK, all of you people that think lugging is SO detrimental, please define lugging.
Are you talking about when you are in too low of a gear for the RPM and it causes lurching, or are you (as some have described on this forum) anything under 2000 RPM?
