Perhaps....but if you want a HARLEY Davidson, with an air cooled V-Twin under you, the the XR1200 is the choice.
so the xr1200 is the fastest best handling bike harley makes? i would go with the cvo fatbob!!!
HARLEY Davidson would not be the first choice for someone interested in performance. HD is about class/style so if the BEST performance and handling are whats important you should look at other bikes...

I'd trade the Superglide for a XR1200 if you can absorb the inevitable financial hit. I haven't had the chance to ride one, but I really like the styling, especially with some tweaks like the one Rhinowerx posted.
But I also like Zepfan's suggestion of continuing the mods on the SG to satisfy your desire for improved handling/performance since you've already invested quite a bit.
If you've had 40 bikes, then I'm sure you've figured out the ins-n-outs of swapping bikes with minimal financial damage, so get what you want.
No matter what you do the dyna is no sportbike. To long, too heavy, etc. Brakes suck (ebc hh pads did wonders). Yes a 103 kit and porting nets 110hp and more tq yet, but so what. 650 lbs would need 200hp to be considered fast. I like the. Sg for what it is, a cool sport cruiser. (new class of bike to me). It sounds so classic harley. Something my dreser does not. My dresser has the same mods as the sg. I just wishedbthe xr had impressed me tq wise. From what i read it does not sem to wake up with min mods like the dyna did. It looks so cool though and handled fine to me. When i was younger i might have riden lets say 85 percent on the street, but now i say 70 peecent is closer. As i grew up when any bike over 750cc weighed over 500 lbs i actually like the weight over a 400 lb sport bike for the street. I have riden at laguna seca (keith code school) on kaw 600 and had the fastest times out of the 30 in the class (1:59) so i know about what the difference is between a street bike and race/sport bike. The xr is no race bike and is borderline sport bike. It is jus plain cool on the street. That being said i can ride the sg with my friends with sport bikes, (ktm's, ducs, etc) and i do just fine. It it all good. To me tq is king.

The CVO Fat Bob is IMO a superb Harley, and for sure a fun ride..... but it's handling in a sporting environment (tight and twisty) is nowhere NEAR the capable handling of the Harley XR1200.
For beginners, yes the CVO has a higher crankshaft torque production per pound of bike than the XR1200. CVO 113 ft lbs at the crank hauling about 720 lbs bike versus the XR 1200 crankshaft power of 74 ft lbs hauling 580 lbs of bike.
Now move into tight corners or any max performance sweeper and the Fat Bob CVO is gonna drop way behind. It has available lean angle of a paltry 28.5 degrees ( it is .75 inch lower than a plain Fat Bob, for looks) compared to the XR available lean of 40 degrees ! Being that the CVO has forward controls, it's rider is in a great position for passive control of his beast, whereas the XR 1200 rider, with his mid mount controls and narrow seat can get his body off the seat and WAY to the inside of a turn for aggressive rider control to further delay lean angles...adding yet more mph to the speed carried thru turns. The only somewhat current production Harley that comes close is/was the fabulous Vrod Street Rod from 2006. It was raised like the XR, had better geometry and CG for cornering, had mid mount (real rider control) footpegs, and thus alas, was doomed to failure in the Harley customer world of rejection of high performance capable motorcycles in stock form.
I'd do it in a heartbeat, if you really like Harleys and want to try to go fast.Personally I think there are allot of bikes out there that would do the same thing better for allot less money. For example a Triumph Speed Triple would kick an Xr1200 in the *** pretty easily or you could spend even less money and build a Suzuki Bandit,Yahmadog FZ1 or Honda 919.

That about sums it up...I like the designation "sport cruiser"...that would be what I have with my modded FXDXT...I'll have to use that. At 607 with a half tank of fuel, its a lot lighter than other Dynas but still didn't feel nearly as nimble as the XR1200. I can't justify too many machines in my garage, though, and mine covers a lot of bases for me.

you stated earlier air cool so the vrod is out that was my first choice. but a cvo fat bob with mid controls would greatly improve lean angle, then you would have a far better starting point for performance mods.
The rumor is that the XR1200X (upgraded XR in flat black) is going to replace the XR1200 for 2011. The announcement (if this, in fact, happens) will be made at the dealer meeting around the end of June.
Don't do it.. Keep what you have now.. The sportster is ok.. My friend has one. I like my dyna better.. If you are looking for something that handles well, try other brands. . I own a yamaha FZ 1 that runs great and can spank the XR1200 any day, any time..
