I have a 2010 Dyna FXD and have the same issue. I went to the dealer and they have a set of Road King replacement bars that give me three more inches of pullback..perfect. I am installing them on the 25th. I will post pics.
Carilini Super Sweeps 9inch rise with 11.5 inchs of pull back. I needed more pull back as well. I debated between these and the wild ones and prefered the look of the Carilini's.
BBerck, what did you do with the bars that you previously had on the bike? Were you unhappy with them? Just wondering because I am thinking of putting drags on my 07 FXDC. Those new bars are sweet. Aren't carlinis big bucks?
I replaced my buckhorns with fat bob drag bars. The problem was that I had to have the speedo remounted to the side of the tank, and a bracket fabricated. I like the look and feel though, and I have never seen another FXD with this mod, although I've heard of sportsters having similar work done.
Good thing you have a tank mounted speedo. That'll make things easier.
I want to change the stock buckhorn bars on my '10 Super Glide Custom. I want something other than the buckhorn, ape or beach style. My arms seem to be short so I need something with more pull back for comfort.
Any suggestions?
I know you said you preferred something other than ape style, but how about...
Chrome Mini apes off of a street bob
I had the same problem. I tried a few combos of risers and different bars at first. I then tried a set of mini apes from a street bob and my search was over. Comfort and style for me is right where I want it. I really like the look of the drag bars however I dont have a very long reach and cant run them as a result. The carlini bars on bberck's ride look nice and might be a nice alternative. But for now I am rocking the mini apes which are surprisingly comfortable.
Good luck with your search for the right bars.
Cheers,
Tom

The FXDSE Bars I had were sold to a forum member. I liked the bars and the speedo and tach mount on them but they were a little to much of a reach for me. So did a tank swap and went with the Super Sweeps which have 11.5 inchs of pull back.
Carlini bars are not as high as they used to be since they just sell them themselves now. They were just a few bucks more than Wild Ones I was looking at.
Yeah, I went to Carlini's site after posting. Those are not all that bad priced. Man they sure look great on your bike.
Any idea if a tank lift would cause trouble? How about cable's?
Ya they cut out of most catalogs and I think they sell to the public for about the same price as they used to sell to the catalogs. Dennis Kirk had a few Carlini Bars on clearance and they were still higher than I paid from Carlini direct.
I have about 3 1/2 inches from the speedo to the bottom of the bars so a 2 inch tank lift should be fine.
I used stock clutch cable, stock brake line (took the banjo bolt apart to wrap the brake line and this allowed me to repostion it better), Throttle cable could of been made to work but Idle cable was to short. I ended up going with +2 on both since they were only $19 and gave me chrome connectors instead of the brushed Harley ones (I wrapped the lines like the Clutch and brake).
I also had to add about 8 inchs of wire for the controls. 9 inch rise with 11.5 inchs of pull back takes alot of wire when done internally.
