Default Install help for big radius??

Hey fellow riders. Just got some V&H Big Radius exhaust for my 01 FXDL. I'm planning on doin the install myself. Does anybody have any tips or how to or what not to do's with the install. V&H said its pretty straight forward. Any help would be great.

very easy to install. IMHO ignore the instructions and install and tighten the heat shield before the exhaust is put on the bike. I used to have the 2-2 big radius. Had them off and on the bike a couple of times. The heat shields will not interfere with the installation of the exhaust on the bike. I remember following the instruction and tightening the heat shields with the exhaust installed was a pain in the butt!.

Make sure you install new exhaust gaskets. Get the pipes started up on the heads loosely then loosely to the mounting bracket. Tighten the flange bolts on the heads first then tighten the pipes to the mounting bracket after you get them aligned properly so that they have an even gap between them.

if you do follow the instructions be sure you set up your heat-shield screws so you can actually get a screwdriver to them to tighten them down once the pipes are on the bike. or just tighten before you put the pipes on. also be sure to wipe all your oily fingerprints off the pipe before you fire it up. an extra set of hands help as well when your trying to get it in the actual exhaust ports, probably the toughest part of the install. this is all assuming we're talking about the big radius 2-1...

No to hijack you tread but.......

I really like these pipes and was thinking about getting a set. But do you need forward controls with them?
